Tajine of Chicken with Figs and Walnuts

This traditional North African dish is known for its unique combination of flavors. The combination of sweet figs, savory chicken, and crunchy walnuts makes this a truly delicious dish. Serve it with couscous or a side of vegetables for a complete meal.


  • 4 chicken thighs, skin removed
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 3 cups fresh figs, quartered
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped


  1. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken thighs and cook until golden brown on both sides. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  2. Add the onion and garlic to the pan and cook until the onion is soft and translucent. Add the paprika, cumin, coriander, ginger, cinnamon, salt and pepper to the pan and stir to combine.Add the chicken broth to the pan and bring to a boil. Add the chicken thighs back into the pan along with any juices from them. Reduce heat to low , cover , and simmer for 20 minutes.< li >Add in the figs and walnuts , cover , and cook for an additional 10 minutes . < li >Serve hot over couscous or with your favorite side dish . < / ol >
