Tajine de poulet aux pruneaux

Tajine is a traditional Moroccan dish of meat, vegetables, and spices cooked in a cone-shaped clay pot. This version is made with chicken and prunes, giving it a sweet-savory flavor. It’s perfect for a cozy night in!

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 chicken thighs or 2 chicken breasts, cut into cubes
  • 2 cups chicken broth or water
  • 1 cup dried prunes, pitted and chopped

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the spices and stir to combine. Add the chicken to the skillet and season with salt and pepper. Cook until lightly browned on all sides, about 5 minutes. Add the broth (or water) and prunes to the skillet and bring to a simmer. Cover the skillet with a lid and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 20 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through.
