Risalamande – A Traditional Christmas Dessert

Risalamande is a traditional Danish Christmas dessert that is traditionally served during the holiday season. It’s a creamy rice pudding with almonds, and is usually served with warm cherry sauce. This recipe is simple and delicious, and perfect for a festive dinner.


  • 2 cups cooked white rice
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 3 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup slivered almonds


  1. In a medium bowl, combine the cooked white rice and sugar.
  2. Mix in the ground cardamom, cinnamon, heavy cream, butter, and vanilla extract until everything is well blended.
  3. Stir in the almonds.
  4. Serve warm with cherry sauce.
