Rice Indian Style with Chicken

This rice Indian style with chicken is a delicious and easy to make dish. It features a blend of aromatic spices, tender chicken pieces and fluffy basmati rice.

  • 4 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups diced cooked chicken
  • 2 cups basmati rice, washed and drained
  • 3 1/2 cups water

In a large saucepan, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the garlic, cumin, coriander, garam masala, chili powder (if using) and turmeric. Saute for 1 minute until fragrant. Add the chicken and saute for 2 minutes more until lightly browned. Add the rice and mix to coat in the spices. Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for 20 minutes or until all the liquid is absorbed.
