This is a classic recipe of Grandma’s spice bread, which is soft and sweet with a hint of spice. It’s perfect for breakfast or as a snack.
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
- 3/4 cup milk
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour one 9×5 inch loaf pan.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time. Add the milk, flour, baking soda, salt, and spices; stir until well blended. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan.
Bake in preheated oven for 50 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into center of the loaf comes out clean. Allow to cool before slicing.
