This classic recipe for Grandma’s Pear and Chocolate Yule Log is a delicious holiday treat! Made with a light sponge cake, fresh pears, and rich chocolate, it’s sure to be a hit with all your friends and family.
- 1/2 cup butter
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 3 ripe pears, peeled, cored and sliced thin
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour a 9×13-inch pan.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time. Sift together the flour, baking powder and cocoa powder and mix into the creamed mixture. Spread evenly into prepared pan.
Bake for 25 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely on wire rack.
Brush melted butter over top of cooled cake. Arrange pear slices in rows over top of cake. Drizzle cream over pears.
Roll up cake like a jelly roll starting from one short end. Place seam side down onto serving platter. Serve chilled or at room temperature.
