Grandma’s Chocolate Pear Christmas Log

This delicious chocolate pear Christmas log recipe will make the perfect addition to your festive dessert table! This recipe is simple and easy to follow, plus you can use any type of pear you like!


  • 100g (3.5oz) dark chocolate
  • 2 pears
  • 90g (3.2oz) butter, softened
  • 100g (3.5oz) sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 60g (2.1oz) all-purpose flour


  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and line a 23cm (9in) round cake pan.
  2. Melt the dark chocolate in a double boiler or in the microwave for 30 second intervals, stirring after each interval.
  3. Peel and dice the pears. Add them to the melted chocolate and mix until combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  5. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  6. Stir in the flour until just combined.
  7. Spread half of the batter into the prepared cake pan. Top with the pear-chocolate mixture then spread remaining batter over top.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
