This delicious gâteau damier au yaourt is a classic French dessert with alternating layers of yellow cake and vanilla yogurt. It’s easy to make and perfect for any occasion.
- 1/2 cup (100g) sugar
- 4 eggs
- 4 tablespoons (60g) margarine or butter, melted
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour (90g)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt (125g)
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder (10g)
Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease a 9-inch springform pan.
In a large bowl, beat the sugar and eggs until pale and creamy. Gradually add the melted margarine, stirring constantly. Add the flour and baking powder, stirring until well combined. Add the vanilla extract and stir until just incorporated.
Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan. Add the yogurt and cocoa powder to the remaining batter in the bowl, stirring until well blended. Pour this second layer over the first layer in the pan.
Bake for 25 minutes. Let cool before serving.
