Christmas Pork Pies

This traditional Christmas dish is the perfect holiday appetizer. A savory combination of pork, vegetables, and spices wrapped in a flaky, buttery crust makes for a delicious treat any time of year.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground pork
  • 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup celery, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3/4 cup beef broth
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 package (14 oz.) frozen puff pastry dough, thawed according to package directions

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground pork until browned. Add the onion and celery and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  3. Add the salt, pepper, parsley, and thyme and mix well. Remove from heat and set aside.
  4. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and add the beef broth. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat to low. Simmer for 5 minutes.< li > Slowly add the flour while stirring constantly until mixture thickens. < li > Remove from heat and add to the pork mixture. Stir until combined.< li > On a lightly floured surface, roll out one sheet of puff pastry dough into a 12×12 inch square. Cut into four 6×6 inch squares.< li > Place 1/4 of the pork mixture onto one half of each pastry square. Moisten edges with water and fold over to form a triangle shape.< li > Press edges together with a fork to seal. Place pies on a greased baking sheet.< li > Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown.< li > Serve warm or at room temperature.
