Chocolate Milk and Lemon Insert Yule Log

This Chocolate Milk and Lemon Insert Yule Log is the perfect winter treat. Made with rich chocolate cake and a lemon insert for a hint of tartness, it's sure to be a hit at your holiday party!


  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk

Lemon Insert:

  • 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk < li > 1/3 cup lemon juice < li > 1 tablespoon grated lemon zest < / ul >< p > Instructions: < ol >< li > Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour a 9×13 inch cake pan. < li > In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Set aside. < li > In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in the vanilla extract. Alternately add the dry ingredients and the milk to the butter mixture, beating until combined. Pour into prepared pan. < li > Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool completely before rolling.< li > To make lemon insert: Whisk together sweetened condensed milk, lemon juice and zest in a medium bowl until smooth. Spread over cooled cake before rolling.< li > Carefully roll up cake from one of the short ends using parchment paper or waxed paper as an aid.< / ol >
