Chicken Curry Dahl

This dish is a classic Indian recipe that combines lentils with aromatic spices for a flavorful and comforting meal. Take it to the next level by adding chicken for extra protein.

  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons curry powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup dried red lentils
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (or to taste)
  • 2 cups cooked, diced chicken (optional)

Heat the oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook until softened, about 3 minutes. Add the curry powder, cumin, turmeric, and cayenne pepper (if using) and cook for 1 minute more.

Add the chicken broth, lentils, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes or until the lentils are tender.

Stir in the cooked chicken (if using). Cook for an additional 5 minutes or until heated through.
